Advent at the Museum of Arts and Crafts 2017

EXHIBITIONS

5 December 2017 – 18 February 2018
BALLET AND PASSION – THE JELKO YURESHA DONATION
On the wings of an unforgettable, unique and breath-taking exhibition about the world’s most famous ballet, The Nutcracker – The Most Beautiful Christmas Fairy Tale, held last Christmas, this year the Museum of Arts and Crafts hosts another magical and unique exhibition.
It is a story about a boy born in a humble Zagreb family, named Željko Jureša, who travelled the world with his life and dance partner Belinda Wright and became the prince of ballet magic. For the first time ever, the general public will have the opportunity to see the opulent costumes designed for Jelko Yuresha and Belinda Wright, in which they danced the most prominent roles of the classical ballet repertoire, numerous memorabilia that testify to his friendship with ballet greats, such as Anna Pavlova, Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Margot Fonteyn and numerous others. The exhibition is complemented by the donation of paintings, books, photographs, sculptures and other valuable artifacts, which the Croatian-British ballet artist, Jelko Yuresha, has donated to the Museum of Arts and Crafts!

19 December 2017 – 28 January 2018
NEEDLES AND PINS – FASHION DESIGN BY IGOR GALAŠ
This warm and inspirational Advent exhibition will present impressive and unique knitted creations of a young, talented and globally awarded Croatian fashion designer, Igor Galaš. The exhibition will take you to a magical world of knits by representing the artist’s unique, knitted body of work created over many years, which includes more than 80 items, clothes and sketches from the awarded collections created between 2006 and 2012. Another story of an artistic creation that can weave the future and dreams awaits you at the Museum of Arts and Crafts!

16 January – 31 March 2018
Contemporary Artists in the Museum’s
Permanent Exhibition: AKIKO SATO
Draw Attention! – Exhibition for Drawing
The permanent exhibition of the Museum of Arts and Crafts is enriched by the exhibition of works by Akiko Sato, a Japanese artist who has lived in Croatia for years. This is a dialogue that actualizes certain topics and contents of the museum’s collections. Akiko has been fascinated by figurative details on decorative elements of museum items. She has come across different interpretations of human figures, hidden in the motifs of herms, putti, angels or grotesque masks, but also across very personal civic portraits, representative busts and gallant figurines of ladies and noblemen. The result of an artistic conversation with these expressive residents of the collections is a series of quick drawings and sketches on silk that reveal their different characters and moods.
