Orienta(lisa)tion is a new series of paintings by Matko Vekić, consisting of two thematic sections – Jihad and The Mask of God’s image. Although they seemingly have no common denominator, what links them is the artist’s artistic expression as they simultaneously arise, interact and develop.
“His paintings are often experienced as essays or writer’s notes on a certain subject. This is the reason why the motifs and themes very diverse … Word play Orientalisation, in the context of the exhibited works, as well as search for direction, orientation, meaning opens up a multi-layered anagram which the artist leaves to us to decipher the answer guided by his mind and painted essays”, writes Miroslav Gasparović, author and curator of the exhibition, the director of the Museum of Arts and Crafts.
The exhibition is made up of 47 oil paintings, which Matko Vekić painted in the period from 2012 to 2016.
The exhibition MATKO VEKIĆ: Orienta(lisa)tion at the Museum of Arts and Crafts opens on Tuesday, 13 December 2016, at 19:00.
